 I remember being just as enthusiastic as you are when I first started mountain biking. I remember the nerves. I remember going on hard trails and having my heart stop anytime there was a rock garden or even a small drop. I remember walking anytime I felt scared and then feeling frustrated that I was off my bike so much, every single ride. I felt defeated that I couldn’t keep up with my friends, especially descending. 

And so I dedicated myself to improving my riding skills. I tried watching videos of really good riders, trying to dissect what they were doing differently. I asked my brother-in-law to help me with cornering (his only advice was don’t brake!). I kept “practicing”, but I wasn’t practicing the correct techniques, so I didn’t improve. It wasn’t until I hired a skills coach to point out my blind spots that I started to make improvements. Then I hired that coach again and again, because I was hungry for confidence, speed and efficiency on my bike, no matter what. That was when I finally understood the value of having a coach and I haven't gone without one since then! 

After years of teaching in-person mountain bike clinics, I realized there was a gap in the learning curve. The women I taught in-person needed to keep practicing after the time they spent being coached by me. But they didn’t necessarily remember everything I said or what it was supposed to look like. I’ve had countless women ask me if I could just write it all down for them and this is my answer! I can see there is huge value in having each of the skills on video and in a self-paced course. This is the best way for my clients to practice (correctly) on their own. And to continually improve the results they are getting in their riding, I have clients send me videos of their skills practice. So my online coaching clients are getting upgrades every single week!

How does the Women’s Mountain Bike Mastery Course work?

Each skill is broken into multiple videos with in-depth explanations. The videos take you step-by-step, from the parking lot to the trail. There are also written summaries of all videos included for you to print or screen shot as reminders when you are on the trail.

There are free videos on Youtube, why should I pay for them here?

You get what you pay for. In the Women’s Mountain Bike Mastery Course, you are experiencing The Women in the Mountains Curriculum that is designed exclusively for adult women. Erica has coached thousands of clients and knows what works! This custom curriculum includes game changing nuances you won’t find anywhere else.

Additionally, you get to work one on one with Erica Tingey, Master Mountain Bike Coach, retired elite professional mountain bike racer, and Certified Life Coach. You’ll have access to weekly calls with her.

Would it be better to take a mountain bike clinic in person instead of watching a video?

While each has advantages, our online and in-person coaching modalities compliment each other beautifully and are better together! In-person coaching allows live instruction, immediate feedback on your techniques, and personalized bike adjustments. Online coaching allows you to watch skills videos again and again, and provides ongoing access to the Community Forum, group coaching calls, and one-on-one Virtual Coaching. Most of us learn well with repetition, and it’s often very helpful to go back and review technique details after you’ve had a chance to practice for a few days--you’ll be surprised how much you pick up on the second, third, and fourth viewings! Once you are registered for the online course, you will be given a discount code for in-person clinics that you can redeem within twelve months.

What if I need help with a particular skill?

You will have access to weekly group coaching, weekly calls with Erica, the community forum, and video reviews of you on your bike. Know you’ll be supported and encouraged every step of the way!

What kind of mountain bike do I need?

Erica recommends an “all-mountain” or “trail” bike less than 5 years old. A seat dropper will make all the difference in what you are able to learn.

What level of rider is your course for?

Our Women’s Mountain Bike Mastery Course is designed for brand new riders through intermediate riders looking to dial in their skills. Brand new riders can start at the beginning and build each skill over time so they are ready to ride anything! Intermediate riders can hone in their skills and find the gaps in their mastery to uplevel their riding (hello pedal wheelies for desert riding!)

What kind of fitness do I need to have?

As long as you have the desire to learn, we’ve got you covered. This is the exact right place! You can work at your own pace, taking breaks and fitting this practice into your life on your own schedule!

What age is your course meant for?

Coach Erica specializes in coaching adult women. The curriculum is designed for women that want to build their skills, layer by layer, with logic and safety in mind.

I'm not exactly tech savvy. Is this course for me?

Yes! All your lessons are organized in an easy to navigate library where one-click access takes you where you want to be. Your Membership also includes a tutorial that makes it easy to share your progress via video. Questions? Erica is here to help every step of the way. How do I upload a video for feedback?

Once you are inside the course, there will be detailed instructions as well as a video walking you step by step through the video uploading process. You will also be able to email hello@womeninthemountains.com anytime you have technical questions with the course.

How long will it take you to get back to me with coaching on my uploaded videos/riding?

Coaching videos will be returned within 72 hours of uploading.

How do I keep track of where I am in the course?

The course itself will keep track of it for you! You can skip a video or mark it as complete and incomplete depending on whether you are going to rewatch it.

What if I want more than 6 months of access?

At the end of 6 months, you’ll receive information about how to stay in the course accessing the community, videos and group calls.

Do I have to finish the course within 6 months? What if I get an injury and have to stop riding for a while?

This course is designed for you to work at your own pace. If you’re a brand new rider, you may not get to the end of the skills. However, you can watch them and keep them in mind for your future riding. You will also be offered a very reasonable price to continue in the course and community after the first 6 months so you can have year-round access. If you become injured or sick, we can put your membership on hold for up to 30 days.
