Sherwood Hills...slightly epic for me. Being the first warm temperature race, there was a new challenge for me, staying hydrated. I could have used a little more water on the course, but let's not blame my performance on that. I think the bottom line was that I hadn't recovered from racing on Wednesday. About 10 minutes into the race it became clear to me that I didn't have much to give, my legs were already crying for mercy and I felt like I was going to bonk at any moment. The race became survival for me at that point. I just told myself to finish, no matter what. My stomach was really grumbling and I thought I may have a "digestive" issue at any moment. Luckily "that" waited until after I was done racing. The race was 18 miles, or 4.5 laps for the Pro women category. That was a mental barrier for me since all of my races have been 2.5 laps. The great part about this race was that there were only expert and pro racers on the course, the other categories raced earlier in the day and really softened up the trail. I was alone for a lot of the ride, passing was never really and issue. I ended up in 4th place. My friend Lucy & I had driven up together. She won the expert women's category. Unfortunately, we missed the award ceremony (because we weren't paying attention), so I don't have any official podium shots of her or me.
