Hooray, I raced again! The local mid-week race series has the last 4 races at Solitude Mountain Resort, these are my favorite of the series. The singletrack is great, it's always cool and smells like the mountains.
I was really nervous to race again, I had no idea where my fitness was. I've been working hard, but I can tell while training that it's not 100%. But I had to start somewhere! I had to keep the brain chatter to a minimum as I warmed up, the mind is a scary thing, it almost talked me out of racing. I was stronger on the climbs than expected, and still more sketchy on the descents than expected. I ended up in second place with Jen, Haley and Meghan right on my heels. (Take note here that Haley is 14, current National Champion in her age group as well as the Utah and Colorado State Champion in her age group-yes, this girl is talented, awesome, super fast and friendly!).
Racing took a much bigger toll on my body than it normally does. I can tell I didn't recover very quickly. I forgot to bring my CarboRocket, so I relied on a different product. My stomach paid the price for the next 6 hours (to the tune of not being able to eat anything until 12:30AM-what's that? Why would I eat at 12:30 AM? Because I couldn't sleep due to the stomach pain as well as my body not being able to relax after racing late at night.) I'm fine now and ready to race again on Saturday!Brooke, Erica, Deb, Evelyn |
